Finding Your Calling: How God Revealed My Purpose in the Mess

If you’ve ever wondered if God is calling you but can’t quite explain why, I get it. I couldn’t either - at first. There wasn’t a dramatic encounter, no booming voice, no “aha” moment that made everything clear. It was quiet. Unfolding. And somehow, undeniable.
I’m sharing this not to give you a formula, but to show you what it can look like when God calls you in the middle of your everyday life.
I Was Chasing Relief, Not my Purpose
I wasn't focused on finding my calling; I didn’t even know I was being called. There was no clear word, no angel visit, no cloud or lightning. I wasn’t looking to be “used by God” or to be on a platform. I wasn’t chasing my purpose.
I was chasing relief.
The first whispers of a call began around 2016, but I couldn’t have explained it that way back then. I had just had my daughter. Even though I had dealt with depression for most of my life, I’d experienced a period of real clarity before she was born. I was building a business making custom handbags and had discovered meditation and mindfulness - tools no one had ever taught me.
At first, being told to “just breathe” used to trigger me. But once I began learning what it meant to slow down and connect to my breath, I realized I could influence how I felt inside, no matter what was happening around me. That shift gave me a sense of internal power I had never known. Mindfulness cleared enough space internally for me to start hearing the unuseful & horrible thoughts I had swirling around in my head. Then eventually helped me to connect with and hear God.
That’s why I don’t agree when people try to demonize those practices - because they literally saved my life and became the very doorway that helped me connect to God more clearly.

The First Step of Obedience
After I had my daughter, I fell into a wave of postpartum depression. I remember sitting on the floor, crying while she lay on the couch. I knew that feeling too well and told God, “I’m not going back there. Please help me. I know there’s more.”
In that moment, I felt a prompting to start back with my handbags. It wasn’t just about the business - it was something to focus on. The next day I pulled out my sewing machine, reorganized my space, and reimagined the brand. That small act of obedience gave me momentum.
As I stepped further into the business, I started doing markets and eventually wanted to expand online. That’s how I found the world of online coaching. At the time, I didn’t realize many of the coaches I followed were rooted in deceptive spiritual practices. But looking back, I see God allowed me to walk that path so I could recognize the counterfeits. That season gave me the language, insight, and compassion to now help others who get pulled into New Age teachings.
How Obedience in Small Things Helps in Finding Your Calling
I kept getting feedback that I had a gift for helping others. That part wasn’t new - I’d always wanted to help people. (I used to think I’d be a nurse until I realized I didn’t like blood.) Once I started seeing how simple tools like presence and breath could change someone’s whole life, I knew I wanted to be part of that in a real, lasting way.
Then, a couple of years later, everything shifted again. My grandmother - the very person who taught me how to sew - got sick. After she passed, I couldn’t do handbags anymore. It felt like something had broken. I felt lost without her, she was the only person I had in my life consistently that built me up and believed in me no matter what.
Losing her the way we did crushed me and I knew that I had to step into helping others. A fire was lit in me; I started seeing the cracks in our systems more clearly, especially after my own mom had been misdiagnosed for years. I realized we don’t understand our bodies or our internal state the way we should.
So I dug deeper - into science, energy, scripture, and systems. I studied psychology, neurology, and behavior patterns. I started learning how God designed us to function, how our thoughts and nervous systems work, and how simple, consistent shifts can change everything.
That’s when I saw how dangerous it is when we center healing around people, products, or practices instead of God. Healing must be rooted in God’s design and His authority - not our own.
Then at 3 years old my daughter started having seizures. That was another turning point. Around the same time my sons faced their own deep challenges - one being harmed by a religious environment that distorted God’s love & truth, and the other struggling with his health.
All of it brought me to this undeniable truth: God has called me to help people see what they can’t see, to support them in healing what they don’t understand, and to help them come back to Him.

I’m The Messenger, Not the Message
I now see that I’m called to be a messenger and that I have the gift of prophecy. God gives me insight, direction, and strategy - not just for me, but to share. I’m not attached to platforms, titles, or building a name for myself. I have them, but they’re not the point.
God is the point. He is the center, the source, the healer, and the one who guides it all. My job is simply to obey, speak what He gives me to say, build what He tells me to build, and stay close to Him while doing it.
I continue to study because I believe in real solutions, and I believe God’s Word offers them. He’s given me a specific role in helping people reconnect to Him, release what’s not theirs to carry, and live with clarity, peace, and purpose.
That’s the call. And even though it’s evolved through pain and obedience, it’s always been the same: to help people come back to truth and wholeness - God’s way.
That Quiet Nudge Isn't Random, It’s Leading You To Your Calling
If parts of this story resonate with you, I encourage you to pause. Ask God what He’s trying to show you in your own journey. That quiet nudge, that persistent ache, that recurring theme in your life - it’s not random.
The journey to understanding your calling is deeply personal. Take a moment to sit with these questions and bring them to God in prayer.
What "mess" or area of pain in your own life might God be using to speak to you?
What quiet nudges or recurring themes have you been ignoring or dismissing as random?
If you weren't focused on just "chasing relief," what do you think you would be moving toward?
Your calling isn't an accident. It was woven into you before you even began.
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." — Jeremiah 1:5 (ESV)
Remember: You’re not crazy. You’re being called.
